Dear Parents and Guardians/A Thuismitheoirí agus a Chaomhnóirí,

Please read this really important policy and we welcome any feedback from all parents by email between now and Wednesday 25th October 2023 (click here to read Anti-bullying Policy).  Pupils have been learning:

  • What constitutes bullying
  • What we do to try to prevent bullying
  • What we can do if we feel bullied or if we see bullying

BoM Changeover

With the formation of a new Board, we invite expressions of interest from the parent body and are specifically seeking someone with financial expertise/interest to the school email address ([email protected]) by 15th November 2023, ahead of the elections on the 22nd November 2023.

One Day Together

We will have a dress up day on Friday 27th in aid of One Day Together. A reminder that we finish school at 12:00 too.

Once a year we hold a national fundraising day – One Day Together – and ask the Educate Together community to come together, dig a little deeper and chat a little louder, to help us achieve our goal of providing inclusive, equality-based education to all families in Ireland who want it. Schools, start-up groups, alumni and families up and down the country mark the day with celebrations and fundraisers, all in aid of our charity Educate Together.”

As we a green school, we would encourage children to wear costumes they already have, to swap or borrow costumes from friends, have a look in local charity shops, or get creative & use items you have at home to make your own unique costume!

And more!

Daniel’s junior infants having great fun making sets!

On Friday, Sylvia and Beccy’s 5th classes went to the Ark to see ‘Fall and Float’ an interesting dance performance. For some of us, it was our first time experiencing modern interpretive dance.  Sylvia

Third class love writing stories. We wrote our own stories in class which we published throughout the school and last Friday we visited Roddy Doyle’s Fighting Words writer’s workshop. We worked with Seirce and other volunteers there to create our own bilingual Gaeilge/English story – Truffles an Coala. Bhaineamar an taithneamh as! Kathy

On Monday we had a visit from author and illustrator Chris Judge. He told us all about how he got started as a writer and what inspired his brilliant stories. He has written lots of amazing picture books, but his personal favourite is his first – The Lonely Beast. He kindly gave us copies of his new book Cloud Babies and books he worked on with comedian David O’Doherty – Danger is Everywhere. We created a crazy, fruity cartoon character together. He encouraged us to be creative every day.  Kathy

Fun filled maths week in Dee a class; we measured our heights, and a big thanks to 5th who came down to us. Dee

Maeve’s 4th class had loads of fun playing ‘Go’ as part of Maths Week. Huge thanks to Sylvia for organising this!

Niamh organised a fantastic workshop for Oisín’s 3rd class in the Irish Museum of Modern Art.  The children took part in a guided tour of two current exhibitions and then in a workshop based on the exhibitions. Oisín

Maths week

All classes have been enjoying maths week. The senior classes are learning how to play ‘go’ thanks to money fundraised by the PTA last year.  All these games will be distributed throughout the senior classes to be played throughout the year.  Junior infants to 2nd class have enjoyed Sylvia’s 5th and Oisín’s 3rd class coming in to play some maths games with them.  Hope you all enjoy the rest of maths week (see photos below).  Sylvia

The school choir were delighted to welcome Lily May Markham to choir practice last week.  Lily May made it to the semi-finals in the search for the Irish entry at Junior Eurovision 2023 on TG4.  The children had the opportunity to ask Lily May advice on performing, her experience on the show and her musical tastes.  Lily May sang her entry for us and we sang the songs we have been working on for Lily May.  Lily May’s Mum is Katrin who works with 5th and 6th Class!  Thank you for visiting us Lily May. Príomhoide

The Autumn Fair is nearly upon us.

Huge thanks to everyone for already:

– Buying raffle tickets

– Donating items for sale

– Cooking and baking

– Volunteering

The event itself will run in the school from 12 Noon on Sunday until 3pm.  Bring your kids, parents, extended family and neighbours!

Entrance will cost €5 for a family and €2 for individuals.  Tokens are available €1 each for kids to use throughout the Fair.  You can also bring food donations on the day.

There is lots to see and and do for adults and young people.  There will be lots of food and refreshments at the burger stall and the café.  Kids will have a cinema, disco, face painting and tattoos, games and a super spooky haunted trail.  There is also a chance to soak some of the teachers!

If that all gets too much, there is even a chill out zone with some gentler games and some lego.

The Garda Band and Orchestra will be on hand for music and our photographers will be available for excellent value portraits.

All of the funds go to the schools’ purchasing of IT equipment and Irish Language resources.

Bring your ‘Keep-Cups’ and kids bottles for drinks to help cut down on waste.  Small change is really welcome but we can accept card payments and revolut too!

All volunteer assignments are being completed over the next two days so you will hear soon.

We still REALLY need about 20 more people to make the Café and the stalls work – there is still time to get involved

We also still need lots of help for set up on Friday at 14:20 and for clean-up on Sunday at 15:00!

Thanks for all of your support and encouragement – now come along a help make a great Autumn Fair – a chance to gather as a school community for our kids!
