The children can wear all things green tomorrow to end off the seachtain na gaeilge celebrations.  Beidh on craic go hiontach, gan dabht.  The effort and enthusiasm from all pupils and staff has been amazing so far this week.

Learn Together – Belief Systems

We are hoping to expand our collection of resources to support the teaching of belief systems as part of our Learn Together curriculum. The main belief systems explored in our new curriculum are; Sikhism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Atheism / Agnosticism / Humanism, Christianity, Islam or Judaism.

Artefacts from various belief systems would be very useful, e.g. Sikh Chauri, Hindu Diya lamp, Islamic Rehal, Buddhist prayer beads, Jewish Dreidel, Christian crucifix etc.

We are asking families if they have any religious artefacts (books, statues, ceremonial items, clothing, etc.) they may be willing to donate to the school as a whole school resource could they send them in with their child or drop them to reception. Thanks so much!

What is SPHE?

Social, personal and health education provides opportunities to foster the personal development, health and well-being of the child and to help him/her to create and maintain supportive relationships and become an active and responsible citizen in society.

SPHE Resources

The following core Resources are used in the delivery of the SPHE curriculum :

  • Walk Tall Manuals
  • Stay Safe Programme
  • The Relationships and Sexuality Manuals

Other programs are used by teachers, as appropriate, alongside these to teach specific strands & strand units.

Aims of Walk Tall:

  • To avert or at least delay experimentation with substances
  • To reduce the demand for legal and illegal drugs
  • To give primary school children the confidence, skills and knowledge to make healthy choices.

Overview of Stay Safe

Aims of Stay Safe:

  • To prevent child abuse by giving children the skills and strategies necessary to enable them to respond safely to any dangerous, upsetting, or abusive situation.
  • To teach children how to deal with unsafe or inappropriate touch and never to keep touch a secret.
  • To teach children the importance of telling.
  • To give children safety strategies to deal with strangers.

  • Feeling safe and unsafe
  • Friendship and bullying
  • Touches
  • Secrets and telling
  • Strangers

Overview of RSE

Aims of RSE:

  • To promote an understanding of and a healthy attitude to sexuality and relationships
  • To promote knowledge of and respect for reproduction
  • To promote a sense of wonder and awe at the process of birth and new life
  • To enable the child to feel comfortable with his or her sexuality and that of others.

Féile Fichille Inter-Schools Tournament

On Tuesday, the school’s chess club travelled to the Féile Fichille inter-schools chess tournament in Balbriggan and competed against six other schools. Everyone played great chess against their opponents and represented the school really well. The tournament adjudicator was particularly impressed at one of our students winning a game by a very rare pawn checkmate! Well done to all who took part. – Grace

Emma, Ellen, Faith, Anna, Elizabeth, Caoimhe, Meskerem and Sadhbh represented the girls in Irishtown stadium this week for a Dublin 5 aside competition. The standard was very high and the girls did themselves proud. There was lots of goals and excitement and smiles despite the dreary weather. We were so proud of you all.

Cormac, Bobby, Daniel, Sam C, Ciarán, Cal, Luke C and Éanna represented the school at the FAI 5-a-side tournament at Irishtown Stadium on Tuesday. They played brilliantly, going unbeaten in the group stage with 2 wins and 2 draws and were unlucky to miss out on the knockout stages. Bobby scored an amazing 7 goals in the four group games. A big bualadh bos for the lads. Colm

3rd Class visited Fighting Words today for a writing workshop. They had a fantastic and creative experience. Oisín

Senior Infants really enjoyed our trip the Botanic Gardens today. We were looking for signs of Spring and we had a special checklist which had lots of different items we ticked off as we spotted along our way!

GET Walking 2024!

During the week of 26th Feb – 3rd March the ever-amazing families of GETNS got on their walking shoes and stomped the streets of Glasnevin and we are delighted to say we have raised a total of €930 for Stay Safe Training for Parents and Board of Management, Garden seeds and compost & Prizes for an Anti-Bullying poster competition.

We had lovely weather for our final walk on Sunday 3rd March with a great turnout! Thanks to everyone who came.  Huge congratulations to  Oisin’s 3rd class who were the winners of the GET walking challenge! As a school, the number of walks recorded were 203, a total of 1,596km, enough to walk from Dublin to Venice! Well done everyone and special thanks to Steve who got us all organised.  PTA

TR Academy’s Easter Camp

TR Academy’s annual 2 weeks of Multi Sports and Activities Easter Camp bookings are now open. The camp is open to 3-13 year olds. The camp will feature our usual favorites such as go karts, Easter egg hunt, basketball, soccer and many other games!

TR Academy camps still features our flexible drop off times of 08:30 or 10:30 and finish times of 15:30.

Daily rates are back, book any single day of the camp, for those who might need some flexibility with their work schedules.
