Maths Week

As a school we are committed to participating in Active Maths as much as possible, we will be celebrating Maths Week next week, with additional emphasis on fun maths activities.

Value for the Month

Based on the United Nations 17 Global Goals, we have decided to focus onSustainability.  The Global Goals are seen as the ultimate to-do list for people and planet – a way for us to work together so that we can find solutions for all the world’s biggest problems. This year we would like to join with other Educate Together schools in celebratingOne Day Together and to support the ET network.  On 23rd October we invite the children to dress up as Heroes for Change (see comic on above website). Educate Together provide a chance to win in their grand prize draw on 22nd November.

Thursday Letter

From November 2015, the Thursday letter will be sent by email to all parents and it is also available on the website www.get.ie.  You are free to opt out of receiving it by email and if you would like a hard copy of the Thursday letter, please let your child’s teacher know.

DCU PhD Research Study

DCU are continuing their research project from last year with 3rd and 5th classes. The study’s title is “An Assessment of Fine Motor Skill Performance in Children.” Details and consent forms have been sent home to parents of 3rd and 5th class pupils.

Buddy System

The Staff have noticed how caring the 6th class pupils are towards the new Junior Infant pupils and have decided to start a buddy system.  All 6th class pupils will be given an opportunity to support play and friendships on the junior yard on a rotational optional basis.

Tree Day

Today is National Tree Day and most classes enjoyed a visit to the Botanic Gardens.

RAKA

The following children were awarded Random Act of Kindness Awards this week: Sally Rose Junior Infants, Harry and Ruby 1st, Miriam, Mary Kate, Hannah, Hai, Sarah and Tommy 2nd, Adam 3rd, Cormac, Ella and Tess  4th, Lorcan 5th, and Layla B 6th.

RARA

The following children were awarded Random Act of Respect Awards this week: Ríona 1st, Emma 4th, Ciarán F and Ruaidhrí 5th.

AUTUMN FAIR Sunday 18th October 2015

DONATIONS-DONATIONS-DONATIONS

 

With just over a week to go to the Autumn Fair it is now time to unleash the dogs of war and from Monday 12th October we can start bringing in items.These can be dropped off before or after school every day next week.  There will be separate drop offs for Toys, Books, Clothes and Bric-a-Brac. So please bring them in separate bags. There will be signs to indicate where these drop offs are. See details below.

 TOY STALL  PLEASE DONATE ALL TOYS, GAMES, JIGSAWS, BABY TOYS, DRESS-UP COSTUMES, ETC…These can be left in the storeroom next to the ALC.
 BOOK STALL  PLEASE DONATE BOOKS, CDs, CHIDRENS BOOKS, DVDs. (Please leave in store room behind second class. There is a gate at second class that will be open).
 BRIC-A-BRAC   PLEASE DONATE ANYTHING & EVERYTHING. (Please leave in Karen’s office).
 CAKE STALL   PLEASE DONATE BAKED GOODS, CAKES, PIES, BREADS, ETC. (These can be donated on the day directly into the Cake Stall)
 POP UP BOUTIQUE  PLEASE DONATE GOOD QUALITY, PRE-LOVED CLOTHES, COSTUME JEWELLERY, SHOES & ACCESSORIES (Please leave in Karen’s office).

 

We are also still desperate for you to volunteer any time you can to help before during and after the event.  Please email [email protected] or there are lists up around the school and people will be collecting names at pick ups, so please help us make it a great day.  If you can give us your contact details and also when you can help, Friday Set up, Sunday morning set up, on a stall during the fair or clean up after the fair.


Raffle tickets
 went out last week, so please help by selling these before the event and dropping money and stubs in to the classes.  There will also be more books of tickets in the office if you want. We are also still after help with the following:

  • Do you have a Marquee or Gazebo that we could borrow if it rains?
  • There are also posters in the office to advertise the event if you know anywhere locally to put them up.
  • It’s not too late for raffle prizes, so please drop anything suitable off in the office.
  • We are also looking for items for the arts and crafts stall.
