Dear Parents and Guardians/A Thuismitheoirí agus a Chaomhnóirí,

Reminder: School Closure on Wednesday 7th May 2025 for Primary Maths Curriculum Training

Solar Panels
We are thrilled to share the news that 82 Solar Panels have been installed!! Thanks to Debbie for her huge help with the application process.
I’m very impressed with the interest and engagement already shown by the pupils e.g., a 1st class pupil was able to explain how ‘…solar panels conduct electricity from the sun’; Infants could list uses of the energy; and a 2nd class pupil asked how much money the school will save over 5 years! So, the two 2nd classes are now tasked with answering this question in 4 years’ time.

New Yard Breaks
In line with our commitment to Wellbeing and our training this year in UDL (essentially about removing barriers, facilitating inclusion), we have been implementing gradual changes to yard time with great success. As per this week, all children are out on the yard at the same time and have full access to the school grounds. This enables lots of choice for children in relation to how they spend their free time, providing multiple options for different types of play &/or rest. They have also much more choice over who they play with. Already we can see fantastic engagement by all the pupils as they relax and enjoy themselves as suits their needs. Thanks to Jill for all the wonderful work on this and the cooperation and participation by everyone. Our pupil wellbeing group will continue to review progress and to provide feedback on pupil voice.

Maths Resources
With huge thanks to fundraising by the Autumn Fair committee & co. we have invested in a considerable amount of Maths resources for each class for practical and mental maths – these are essential for implementation of the new primary maths curriculum. Huge thanks to Aoife for all the work on this.

Mobile Phones: We have a school policy (click here to read) that fully supports our Parents’ Pact (click here to read). We fully discourage children having mobile phones.

Road Safety: Thanks to the PTA who will be out in force again the week beginning Monday 12th May to promote safe and courteous entry and exit to school for all.

Parent Neurodiversity Group: Some parents have come up with this fantastic idea and have formed a parent neurodiversity group open to all parents, as a support network. Fair play!

4th class finalists in “Gamechangers” competition
Sinead and Naomi’s 4th class have been learning about global justice issues and entered the Gamechangers competition last month. This is a programme for young people who want to learn about issues affecting the world today. It involved a workshop where they learnt about issues such as hunger, gender inequality, immigration, climate change etc. Then in groups they researched a topic and created a board game to teach others about their issue. 209 games were entered and in great news the game “Journey to Safety” has reached the final 20 in the Helix next month. Congratulations and best of luck to Liv, Angeline, Abi, Clara, Alayna and Elizabeth for their fantastic teamwork and hard work. Naomi & Sinead

The Senior Camogie team had their match on Wednesday against Holy Trinity SNS. The team showed great passion and commitment. Unfortunately it wasn’t our day but their performance was excellent with our Captain Eve scoring a fantastic goal! Stay tuned for our next match against Scoil Mobhí. Maith sibh! Siobhán & Ava
