Dear Parents and Guardians/A Thuismitheoirí agus a Chaomhnóirí,

Update for parents/guardians on the Consultation

As you may be aware, the primary curriculum is changing. This is the most significant change to primary education in 25 years.  The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) is holding a consultation on curriculum in the following areas:

  • Arts Education (Art, Drama and Music)
  • Modern Foreign Languages, as part of the Primary Language Curriculum
  • Science, Technology and Engineering Education
  • Social and Environmental Education (History and Geography)
  • Wellbeing (Physical Education and Social, Personal and Health Education).

You can have your say by completing the online questionnaire for parent/guardians, or by completing a written submission. The draft curriculum documents, and links to the questionnaire and written submissions can be found at the NCCA consultation webpage:

https://ncca.ie/en/primary/primary-developments/primary-curriculum-review-and-redevelopment/consultation-2024/

The consultation closes on Friday 7th June at 5pm.

Teacher Training in new Maths Curriculum

We are all very enthusiastic about the developments in the maths curriculum and very receptive and ready to embrace the changes which align really well to our current practices with an emphasis on maths talk, playfulness and developing a positive disposition.  For more information see  Maths Curriculum Information for Parents.

And More!

Some of our 2nd class pupils made their First Holy Communion last weekend. They really enjoyed their special day celebrating with their families and friends. The children had an active part in the ceremony doing readings, prayers and bringing up the gifts. Congratulations.

Third class took part in a Sustainable Toys workshop with Rossa from the Ballymun Rediscovery Centre. He Told us all about the advantages of the circular economy – when things are reused and have multiple ‘lives’ rather than being thrown in the bin when one person is finished with them – for us and our environment. He also advised us on how we can contribute to it by reusing toys, passing toys on to others when we are finished with them, fixing toys that are broken and buying wooden toys and toys made from bioplastics.
