13th December 2018

Dear Parents and Guardians / A Thuismitheoirí agus a Chaomhnóirí,

Christmas Holidays

The school will close at 12pm on Friday 21st December 2018 for Christmas.

Art Percent celebration has been postponed until January.

 Mulch

The mighty Martin returns tomorrow morning at 9am armed with shovel loads of mulch.  We need your help again and would be delighted if the same gang and some more could join us with distributing mulch around the grounds.

St Vincent de Paul Collection

A very big thank you to everyone for your generosity in donating to the annual SVdP hampers.

A Few Highlights from the Week

It’s been another eventful and exciting week!

Biodiversity

A number of classes had a visit from Dale armed with a large spider, a microscope and books sharing stories of biodiversity.

Inter-Generational Project

2nd Class invited their grandparents to the school.  They sang songs and played games and it was a very special experience for all.

“Second class just went for on a visit to St. Clare’s Nursing Home today to meet the residents and it was absolutely wonderful and so heartwarming!  The kids brought along their favourite toy and talked about it with their buddy. They also made the residents a Christmas card which they loved! Then we all played a giant board game together which kept everyone really engaged and sang some songs together at the end. The team at St. Clare’s were so well organised and had plenty of supervision. Each child was paired up with one resident.”  Maeve

We hope this is a start of another wonderful opportunity for the children in GETNS.

Drama

Colm and myself accompanied 6th Class to a drama workshop on Childrens Rights in St. Pats College.  The children engaged really well illustrating good awareness of their rights and responsibilities.  We are very grateful to Sharon and all involved in St. Pats for inviting us.

Sam the Cup Man!

A thrilling atmosphere and dramatic sky as we cheered for Sam and a homework free day.  Fair play to the boys in blue and thank you to Johnny Cooper, his brother Niall and Mark McManus.

Antarctica Tour by Chair

Vincent, our wonderful Chairperson, is treating 1st and 2nd class children to a presentation on Antarctica based on first-hand experience. Thank you Vincent, the children are really enjoying these sessions.
