ET Principal’s Conference
I thoroughly enjoyed linking in with many other ET Principals and Head Office staff at the annual conference. We are part of a truly inspiring network. Paul Rowe is stepping down as CEO of Educate Together after over 26 years of a committed and challenging slog. With thanks to his passion, determination and hard work we are all part of the Education Together community providing our children with schools which they love and feel listened to and part of e.g. one child in 4th class said they will miss school over the holidays! With huge gratitude we thank Paul and wish him all the very best with his new ventures within the organisation. Please see the new ET website https://www.educatetogether.ie/

Student Voice
I received a persuasive letter from the Student Council for the Board presenting an argument for building a fence on the field and requesting permission to raise funds in aid of this. The Board were very impressed by their writing standard, clearly presented arguments and have approved their proposal. Big shout out to the Student Council.
A group of students, Animalo, presented the Board with a different proposal: arguing that we have a Palm Oil Free school. This included a petition and again was very persuasive with sound evidence. The Board were equally impressed and have decided to add a note to our school Healthy Eating Policy, we will liaise with the pupils on the wording of this and you will hear from us in due course. Go Animalo!

Hurling
The team played against O’Connell’s school on Tuesday and it was a very strong team performance, winning 4-7 to 1-0. Well done to everyone.

Dogs Trust
Lucy, the beautiful King Charles Spaniel visited Junior and Senior Infants, 1st classes, and 5th and 6th classes this week along with her owner Audrey from Dogs Trust.

Trocaire
Garry from Trócaire came in to talk to the children in 2nd to 6th classes about the 3 girls on this year’s Trócaire box. We had a great discussion about land rights and people’s right to their home. He was really impressed with the children’s knowledge and awareness of refugees. A big shout out to Garry (and Maeve).

Community Garda visit 6th Class
The community Garda Martin Lynch and Garda John visited 6th class today to talk about Cyber bullying.

Mulching
Can you please give a helping hand to Martin tomorrow morning from 9am to 11am to help spread mulch around the Grounds. A lot of great work has been done to date and thanks to everyone involved. As they say, many hands make light work!

Child Safety Statements
If you would like a paper copy of the school’s Child Safeguarding Statement they are available from the school office. A copy is also available to view on the school website.

Upcoming Events
• 3rd Class invite their Parents to the Hall tomorrow Friday 12th at 11:20am for their music performance.
• Swimming classes will begin for 1st and 2nd classes on Thursday 2nd May.

Reminder:
• School closes for Spring Holidays at 12pm on Friday 12th April
• Reminder that Art Day won’t be long coming around – 14th of June and the PTA will be looking for lots of volunteers after the Easter break! Please see note below from the Art Day Committee.
• As always children and parents from Glasnevin ET are welcome to come in through the pedestrian gate at 8:35am at the earliest and parents are responsible for their children at this time.
• Please take care when entering and leaving the school grounds. Always dismount from bicycles, electric scooters and scooters before coming in the school gate. Can you please pass this message onto your childminders and others who maybe collecting your children.
• Parking – re the school guidelines for motorists and pedestrians at drop off and pickup time all parents can use the set down area for set down only. Parking is only for school taxis and cars with disabled certificates issued by the school. Please make child minders and after school carers aware of this.

Art Day is fast approaching – Friday 14th June

Art Day is fast approaching, and with only 9 weeks to go (Friday 14th June), things are moving fast. If you haven’t yet volunteered, now is your chance to do so! You can help at any one of the amazing stations we have prepared, or choose to run your own: all arts welcome (writing, dancing, singing, drama, painting, ….)! So, if you would like to join, or you have any questions, drop us a line at [email protected]
Reminder: This year we are hoping to run our own GETNS Lego station. If you have any unwanted Lego put away, now is the time to move it on: donate your unwanted bricks for Art Day!!
